Wrld History I:Ancient-Medievl, HILD 20
This course provides an introduction to the culture, environmental context, and socio-political outlook of ancient civilizations, and traces historical change, from the emergence of classical empires to their collapse and transformation into medieval forms. The course also explores the development and spread of major world religions.

Prof. Matthew Herbst is Director of the Making of the Modern World GenEd World History program at UC San Diego’s Eleanor Roosevelt College as well as faculty co-director of the Classical Studies Program and co-director of Study Abroad. Engaged in experiential learning, he has led 12 undergraduate summer programs abroad in Asia, Europe.
