International and Area Studies M6B: Elementary Amharic, I A STD M6B

(Same as African American Studies M9B.) Lecture, five hours. Requisite: course M6A. Introduction to Amharic, Semitic language that is official language of Ethiopia. Coverage of basic Amharic grammar, with equal emphasis on reading, writing, conversation, and comprehension. P/NP or letter grading.

Dr. Abraham Adhanom has been teaching African Languages Amharic and Tigrinya at UCLA since 2003. He was born and raised in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Prior to his move to the U.S., Dr. Abraham worked as an engineer and technical team leader for the Geneva, Switzerland based global organization Lutheran World Federation where he managed international development projects in Ethiopia and Eritrea. He comes to UCLA with extensive academic background and professional consulting expertise. Dr. Abraham holds PhD in Management, Masters in International Business, and Bachelors in Computer Science.
