Lecture, four hours. Introduction to grammar; instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. P/NP or letter grading.

More About The Course

This is the first quarter of a year-long introductory course to Yiddish language and culture. Students learn to read, write, and speak Yiddish on a basic level. By the third quarter students are able to read some of the extraordinary Yiddish poetry and prose in the original.
