Conversation and Composition, DUTCH 125

This advanced Dutch language course is designed to develop and enhance students’ written skills. Students will be introduced to different types of texts and will learn different styles and practices in writing.

More About The Course

This class will meet three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at the assigned hours. Since this class is open for both UC Berkeley students and for students from other UC’s, instruction will be delivered in a format that allows for participation from both on campus and online students.

On Mondays, classes will be held fully in Zoom for all students. On Wednesdays and Fridays, classes will be held in-person on the UC Berkeley campus in a classroom with the necessary equipment to allow online students to join in via Zoom.

Please note that this course follows the Berkeley (semester) calendar. For Spring 2024, the first day of classes is Tuesday, January 16 and the last day of classes is Friday, April 26. Esmée van der Hoeven is Continuing Lecturer in the Dutch Studies Program at the Department of German at UC Berkeley. She has an MA degree in Language and Culture Studies from Utrecht University (2004), and received her certification in teaching Dutch as a Foreign Language from VU University Amsterdam (2006). She is experienced in teaching Dutch language courses on all levels and has a special focus on conversation practice and writing skills. At UC Berkeley, she is responsible for the Dutch Language Program. She is also Program Director in the Berkeley Summer Abroad Program to the Netherlands and Belgium. Before she came to Berkeley, she has taught Dutch language and culture at Utrecht University, Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, Delft University of Technology, and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
